Common Issue - Out-dated References in Session with Windchill

Partner Channel / Windchill

Under some circumstances, drawings, layouts and models can contain unwanted Default, Ghost, Invalid, Old or Legacy references to models. This guide describes how to remove these references when in a linked session with Windchill.

1. Common Issues Out-dated References in Session with Windchill Aug 2019

7. Prevent or Reduce the Number of Unwanted Dependencies In some cases, actions like the following can prevent creation or reduce the number of unwanted dependencies:   Bring the drawing and drawing models into session when replacing components and then save   the drawing before erasing from session   Use the global reference viewer to cleanup unwanted dependencies after making changes   Delete suppressed components in assemblies where they are no longer used   Resume components in assemblies where appropriate

3. Con fi g.pro-options The following con fi g options are available and can be used in some cases to remove " Default " references in models   which are no longer desired: cleanup_drawing_dependencies cleanup_layout_dependencies dm_hide_model_dummy_deps Do NOT enable clean-up options by default Many dependencies which initially appear as ghost objects or default references may be valid and should not be removed . If valid dependencies have been removed, a drawing cosmetic reference may have asterisks *** in place of important values, or an external reference parameter may not update correctly when the layout parameter is changed

6. Using the Hide Dummy Dependencies Con fi g The option dm_hide_model_dummy_deps can be set to Yes by default and this results in Creo Parametric not saving   " Default " reference links in Windchill   to models where the reference is not displayed anywhere in the model or global reference viewer   If cleaning up references between models, set con fi g option   dm_hide_model_dummy_deps =yes Use these steps after setting the con fi g.pro options as mentioned above: 1.   Retrieve   the model from a workspace 2.   Save to workspace

4. Using the Cleanup Con fi gs Do not set the options cleanup_drawing_dependencies or cleanup_layout_dependencies as default, only enable the options when attempting to cleanup speci fi c drawings or layouts Retrieval performance is signi fi cantly decreased when the cleanup options are enabled as Creo Parametric will automatically search the Commonspace for each missing object during retrieval   If cleaning   up drawings , set con fi g option   cleanup_drawing_dependencies = yes_cs_not_required   If cleaning up   layouts , set con fi g option   cleanup_layout_dependencies = yes_cs_not_required   If cleaning up references between models, set con fi g option   dm_hide_model_dummy_deps =yes

5. Using the Cleanup Con fi gs Set the con fi g.pro option given in previous slide and follow these steps: 1.   Retrieve   the drawing or layout in session from a workspace 2.   Backup   the drawing or layout to local disk 3.   Erase   the drawing or layout from session, only the drawing or layout, not dependents, via File > Erase > Current 4.   Ensure referenced objects are not in the workspace 5.   Retrieve   the drawing or layout from local disk 6.   Select   Yes   or   Remove   to remove the unwanted, missing dependents from the drawing or layout   7.   Save   to workspace 8.   Set con fi g   cleanup_drawing_dependencies =no   and   cleanup_layout_dependencies =no

2. Under some circumstances, drawings , layouts and models can contain unwanted Default , Ghost , Invalid , Old or Legacy references to models. This guide describes how to remove these references when in a linked session with Windchill In short, this guide contains how to remove:   historical references to models in drawings   references to models that were previously   replaced, renamed,   copied, saved   as or   save a copy some time in the past from drawings and layouts   drawing dependencies   references to ghost objects created during save as that prevent check in   references to objects or ghost objects that fail remove   from workspace with   messages like:   To remove a child xxx.prt , parent xxx.drw object should also be removed   or   The drawing references the listed models by name; however these models cannot be removed   the reference from being displayed in Windchill Lastly some tips on how to prevent or reduce the number of unwanted dependencies are presented
