Partner Channel / Creo Simulate

To run large analyses in Creo Simulate can sometimes require extra hardware resources and take time, where the user can’t use the computer. A solution is to use Creo Distributed batch or Distributed Service Manager to schedule the analysis to run outside of office hours or/and on other computers. This document contains information on what is needed to use DBatch for Creo Simulate and how it works. Click the link to access the guide.

3. Results use at Creo Simulate After Creo Distributed services have got the job done you have *.mrs file in your specified location. In order to use compressed result file *.mrs, o pen it with Creo Simulate using Insert>Result window. • T he data is extracted to standard format in background and can be used later on without any additional tasks • If you want to save results from workspace to Windchill Analysis and studies> Run > Vault results. This will create a *.mrs file and it will be shown in Related Objects list at Source/Image after check in.

2. At Server (DSM) Creo Distributed Services Manager x.0 must be running. • You can launch the software from Start menu, or <Creo 2 install dir> \ Distributed Services Manager \ bin \ ptcdsm.exe o At title bar of DSM you can find out the server name, IP address and port o C lients are connected to DMS using Edit>Preferences>Resource Lookup>Add (host name of clients, use full name with domain) o You may schedule resources availability • At server you may look at availability of client resources, ongoing tasks, log etc. USING DBatch Using DB atch is simple by user perspective. Prepare simulation as usual, define it as dbatch simulation, run the job with Distributed Batch Client and enjoy results. Mode l preparation At Creo Simulate Creo Simulate: • Analysis and Studies > Select analysis > Run > Distributed Batch... for creation of "analysis_name.mds" file for each simulation you want to run. At Creo Distributed Batch Client • You can start Creo Distributed Batch 2.0 from start menu or at <creo 2 insta ll dir> \ Parametric \ bin \ ptcdbatch.bat • Select the predefined Creo Simulate TTD (named as “Run a Creo Simulate study”) using the New Task Group dialog box or customize the predefined TTD file for your requirements. • Specify DSM server or run simulation as st andalone (no license needed) locally o use IP address &port for DSM server o click refresh • Specify location of simulation *.mds file • Specify the location of results (working directory or workspace) • You can run simulation with right mouse button • You can m onitor the progress of dbatch task o Files are sent from this machine to DSM and further on to clients where they are processed o After processing the results are send back to your specified location A Creo Distributed Batch client displays a tree view of the batch file. By default, a batch file has a .dxc extension.

1. Distributed Batch - Creo Simulate To run large analyses in Creo S imulate can sometimes require extra hardware resources and take time, where the user can’t use the computer. A solution could be to use Creo Distributed batch or Distributed Service Manager to schedule the analysis to run outside of office hours or/and on other computers. Architecture of solution : • Distributed Service Manager – DSM – piece of software that controls clients and receives jobs • Distributed Service Client – DSC – client software • dcad services on clients Workflow You can prepare your Creo S imulate model (analysis) at your local machine and send the analysis via DSM to a separate clients to process the job. The results are then sent back via DSM to the local machine. Prerequisites – licenses, installation, services Using Cre o Distributed S ervice Manager (r un on a schedule on separate clients) require licenses for Creo Distributed Service Manager. • PKG - 3226 - F Creo Distributed Batch Single Service License, for each client, DS_SERVICE - license • PKG - 3227 - F Creo Distributed Batch Server Package , DS_MANAGER - license Creo Distributed batch (r un on local machine) is included in Creo Parametric license. Every machine that is in process must have Creo Simulate and Creo Distributed Services installed. Installation can be found at < Creo x install dir> \ Distributed Services Manager directory. Every client must have their corresponding dcad processes (dbatchs, dsserver, msengine_svc) running: • <Creo 2 install dir> \ Simulate \ bin \ dcadsetup.bat • <Creo 3 install dir> \ <Maintenance release>Simulate \ bin \ dc adsetup.bat
