Included with Windchill is a Desktop Integration (DTI) plugin that allows you to perform Windchill actions on documents (such as downloading, checking out, and checking in content) without opening Windchill in a web browser.
When you install the Windchill DTI plugin, a new menu with Windchill actions is added to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook.
There is no additional license required to install Windchill DTI on client side.

4. Microsoft O ffi ce Applications A Windchill menu appears in the Microsoft O ffi ce applications when Windchill DTI is setup correctly. Use this menu to perform Windchill actions directly from the document.

Guidelines The following rules apply when working with documents using Desktop Integration: • You must have permission to modify the document • Read-only documents are not supported • Documents launched from a SharePoint portal or from a web browser are not supported Note If you are navigating to a document through a web browser, save the fi le to your local machine. Ensure that it is not set to read-only before opening. You can then use the Windchill menu to add the document to Windchill.
6. Install Windchill DTI To use Windchill DTI, you must fi rst download the DTI plugin. Complete the following steps to install it: 1. Close all open applications and open Windchill in a browser 2. Navigate to Quick Links > Software Downloads 3. Click the Windchill Desktop Integration link (select the right bit-version for your setup) 4. Follow the installer prompts to complete the installation process 5. Complete the post-installation checklist on the next slide

Add the Windchill menu to the Windows Explorer right-click menu options for non- Microsoft O ffi ce documents Launch a Microsoft O ffi ce application. If the Windchill menu does not appear, select File > Options > Add-Ins and ensure the PTC O ffi ce Add-In is enabled

Windows Explorer A Windchill Documents system folder appears in your Windows Explorer folder browser when Windchill DTI is setup correctly Expand the Windchill Documents node to browse context folders and access Windchill documents. Windchill actions are available from the right-click menu. The actions that are available depend on the document type and how you access the menu.
9. Update the DTI Plugin When you move to an updated version of Windchill, you must also update your existing DTI plugin. To verify whether your DTI version is up to date, open a Microsoft O ffi ce document and select Windchill > Con fi guration > About . Verify that the installed version and the server version match and click Check for Updates . If available, you can install the updated plugin using the Check for Updates action. You can also manually update your plugin through the Software Downloads page: 1. Close all other applications 2. Uninstall your current DTI plugin using the standard options available from the Microsoft Windows Control Panel 3. Restart your computer once the uninstall is complete 4. Download and install the updated plugin as described on a previous page

7. Windchill DTI Post-Installation Checklist Once installed, there are a few actions you should perform before working with documents outside of Windchill. These are the following: Required Steps 1. From Windchill, set your Attachments > File Download Mechanism preference to Use Windchill Desktop Integration functionality to download fi les Caution If this preference is not set, Windchill Desktop Integration might not perform correctly 2. Establish a connection with the Windchill server Log in to Windchill and download the primary content of a Windchill document to automatically con fi gure and connect to the Windchill server or Open a Microsoft O ffi ce application and select Windchill > Con fi guration . From the Windchill Desktop Integration Con fi guration window you can manually con fi gure and connect to a server Note Most Windchill actions do not appear until you have established a connection with the server
